Matthew English holds
Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and Bachelor of Education degrees
from Queen’s University-Kingston. He began playing
the guitar at the age of 17, and a late interest quickly
grew into a passion. His teachers include Jeff Hanlon. He
has participated in masterclasses with the Canadian Guitar
Quartet and Ben Verdery. He performs regularly as a soloist
and with Canadian recording artist, Andrew Martin.
Matthew believes that
music is an exploration of creativity, which permeates all
aspects of life. Whether a hobby, or aspirations of being
a professional musician, the role of a teacher is to help
guide and direct students in achieving their goals.
Although classically
trained, Matthew is proficient in many styles of music including
fingerstyle, Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Pop. He also offers
Ukulele lessons, a great instrument for a beginning musician
of any age!
