Patricia Hawke

Performance and educational support
Brain Gym

Having done undergraduate work in vocal music at Stetson University, DeLand, Florida, Pat completed her formal studies at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, with Uta Graff as principle vocal teacher.

Studying privately with Margarita Mayer in Ottawa and New York City, she enjoyed employment in various singing positions, among which was soloist and ensemble member at Calvary Church, Gramercy Park under the direction of Calvin Hampton.

After moving to Florida, she and her husband Jason maintained and pursued their interest in performing and promoting music of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. As soloist and performer in various settings and music ensembles, among which were The Troupe, the Lords and Ladies and The greensward Consort, she was also co-founder and soloist with The Treasure Coast Opera Society, where she sang many leading mezzo soprano rolls.

Having taught Montessori education while in New York, she co-founded The Sun Grove Montessori School in Florida. Pat studied Montessori music techniques with the Swiss organist and honored educator Elizabeth Caspari. Through The American Montessori Society she has taught all levels of early childhood education, from infancy through elementary. Interest in Education led her to training with the Educational Kinesiology Foundation, through which she is certified to teach Brain Gym, and to facilitate private and group sessions. Brain Gym, especially helpful in performance preparation, is a system of simple and enjoyable activities designed to make all types of learning easier and more enjoyable.

As physiological and emotional support for performance and technique, Brain Gym falls into the same general category as the Alexander method, Eurhythmics and other similar methods". Studied and documented, Brain Gym has been shown to be helpful for enhanced focus and stress reduction.

In Canada, Pat taught vocal technique and Educational Kinesiology, privately, as well as at The Renaissance School of Music and the Kingston School of Music. She founded the group Musick’s Pleasures, an ensemble dedicated to costumed theatrical presentations of vocal and instrumental music and dance of the Renaissance era.
